The purpose behind dbqbike.weebly.com is to promote cycling and support the Hempstead High School Debate Team.
Debate is a structured discussion on current issues of the day. It is a competitive event that allows students to compete at the highest of academic levels. There are several forms of debate at Hempstead High School. We currently support Lincoln-Douglas Debate, which is primarily focused on uphold and measuring a value and Public Forum, a form of two on two. We have been very successful in recent years.
In 2012, we took 1st and 2nd in Lincoln Douglas Debate at Davenport, 1st and 2nd at Lincoln High School in Des Moines, placed in Octo's at State and tied for 3rd in total wins in Lincoln Douglas Debate at State in 2013.
In 2013, one of our junior varsity debaters took 4th in his first tournament. We also defeated Wahlert 12-8 for the City Championship and had two students qualify in Octo's and tie for 2nd most wins in Lincoln Douglas Debate at State.
All of our tournaments come at a tremendous cost to our team, ranging from $400 to $600 per tournament. We generally compete in six tournaments per year, so you can imagine the challenge we have in raising money (there are only 10 students on the team). We can try to sell overpriced items or provide a community service project....we chose a community service project for your benefit.
We hope you can join us for the cycling events we have planned for 2014.
